Guelph, ON, 07/11/2024 — CSL Silicones Inc, (“CSL”), announces it is choosing green electricity and green natural gas for its silicone manufacturing plant in Guelph, ON. CSL joins the growing number of organisations that reduce their carbon footprints and support green energy with Bullfrog Power.

“CSL has made the environment an essential part of our commitment to sustainability,” said Chris McConnery, VP & General Manager at CSL. “That is why we are proud to partner with Bullfrog Power on green electricity and natural gas for our silicone manufacturing plant here in Guelph, ON.”

The silicone coatings, sealants and adhesives process require mixers, similar to those in a commercial bakery, although significantly larger in size. Within the overall silicone manufacturing process, these large mixers use a lot of energy.

Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power’s producers put renewable electricity onto the grid and green natural gas onto the pipeline system to match the amount of conventional electricity and natural gas used by CSL’s silicone manufacturing plant. Across Canada, Bullfrog’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind, solar, and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.

Bullfrog’s green natural gas comes from organic waste at a landfill. When the organic waste decays, it emits an energy-rich gas composed mostly of methane and carbon dioxide. Instead of letting these potent greenhouse gases escape into the atmosphere, our producers capture the gas, clean it up, and put it onto a pipeline on our customers’ behalf.

In addition to choosing green energy with Bullfrog Power, CSL’s sustainability initiatives include:

  • Aspiration to adjust our operations towards a circular economy by implementing reusable packaging solutions.
  • Full retrofit of lighting in our office and plant to low energy consumption LED lighting.
